Day Six - Wrapping it Up!

The final day of shooting was spent in the pouring rain at Bunzten Lake. The cast and crew braved torrents of unabating rain to finish the show on schedule. With many scenes to do, they got to work.

Directors Ed Derouin and Rory James Wood lean up against the side of Tyler's cabin as they process the day they have ahead of them.

Although the crew had a lot to do, sacrifices were made and they wrapped on time, making Producer Sarah Israel very happy. Congratulations to the cast and crew of "The Reliant". You are wrapped!

Day Five - Cleaning Up

Friday, March 16 was spent in P Building's room 107. A small, beautifully built bathroom set was constructed by Production Designer Severin France and a few helpers. The crew piled in at 4:30pm and began a long night of shooting.

Cast members Rebecca Hay and Tevis Toro braved the warm(ish) water for hours on end. The cast and crew were rewarded with some amazing shots and incredible performances.

Day Four - Bucket Full of Creepy Goodness

With three days under their belts, the Reliant crew got up bright and early for day four at Buntzen Lake. With many scenes to do in a short period of time, it seemed near impossible to complete, but Leea Thorne, First Assistant Director, whipped it all into shape like a nice souffle.

Directors Rory James Wood and Ed Derouin had an interesting time with the torture scene. With disgression and tact they tackled the scene and the outcome was rewarding. With wonderful performances by Rebecca Hay (Rose) and Peter Nicholas (Roger), the effect was creepy and uncomfortable, but amazing all the same.

Inside Tyler's cabin "The Gull" found its resting place on the final Year Two Production. A statue that began as a piece of set decoration on the very first show has become an icon that represents the year two final productions. If you look carefully, it appears in all six of the shows. Credit goes to Clayton Flagg and Chris Lazar for this little gag.

Day Three - Fiddle Done Fiddle Dee

On a chilly wednesday evening, the cast and crew made their way down Mt. Seymour Parkway to Fiddleheads, a small local market. Even though the shooting day was short, a lot of fun was had prancing through aisles of fruit as Tevis and Christine played out an integral scene to the film.

Day Two - Good Morning Sunshine

Tuesday, March 13, and we are back at Buntzen! The flooded road has been repaired and the crew is able to begin working. The fleet of cars makes its way down the gravel road, and we set up shop. Earl hooks up his genny truck and our crew is able to start lighting the first scene of the week.

After we finish up at Tyler's cabin location, we do a mini-move down the road to Roger's cabin. To help us out with the 360 degree steadicam shot we have Cliff, professional steadicam operator.

As if it wasn't enough to have a wicked steadicam shot, we ended the night off (at four in the morning) with a water stunt. As cool as it was to have scuba gear, dry suits, stunts and struggles, the water was freezing! Tevis and Peter did an amazing job surviving the sting of the icy water, and Rebecca braved the windy dock.

Day One - Disaster Strikes!

It's 8:45 in the morning when we arrive at Buntzen Lake. The sky is a clear blue and the sun is rising behind cottonball clouds, but an ominous feeling hangs in the air. We learn that due to the torrential downpour the night before, the only service road down to the location has been flooded!

The Producers, Directors, and Location Manager trek down the gravel road to assess the damage. About 100 yards past the gate, a river rushes across their path. Blasted aside by the water, rocks and boulders now guide the river down the hill. After discussing the situation with the Warden, it is determined that there is nothing we can do. We must end our day and head home.

Whether we will be able to shoot tomorrow or not is yet to be determined. The Directors and Producers are out looking at possible new locations, but keeping their fingers crossed that the road will be repaired for tomorrow. We will hear from them later tonight, so check back here for more info.

Location Scout - What a Find!

I just received news from the Producer, Sarah Israel, of a locations scout to Buntzen Lake on the morning of January 29th, 2007. Below is an account of the event, written by Israel, complete with photos of the locations.

"Anthony, Rory, Ed and I headed out to Buntzen Lake this morning. It took a little under an hour to get there, which isn't half-bad. Anthony knew the guy in charge of the park, from working there for a few months apparently, so we got a key to the gate and headed over to the side of the lake that has cabins. The whole thing was very 'Stephen King', as Rory said. It was foggy and overcast, and there was no one around for miles. But as Rory also said, he knew instantly while getting out of the car that we just had to shoot here."

"Basically, there are two cabins within about 100 meters of each other that are completely perfect. They're totally empty inside so we would be able to build from scratch. One of the cabins has a dock on the water and the view is spectacular ... Here's to hoping that we get to shoot here. I'm speaking to our execs right now and should know fairly soon whether or not I can start working on securing the location. "

Special thanks to Sarah Israel for this exciting news; more to come soon! To see more photos of the location, visit Sarah's Facebook album:
